Why Foreign Visitors Are Slipping a Health Check Into Their China Trip

If you're visiting China on a transit visa for business or travel, consider adding 90 minutes to your itinerary — you might find that a quick health screening is far easier than you'd expect.

Recently, after sourcing samples at the Yiwu International Trade Market, a German merchant named Christopher skipped the airport and instead walked into the International Health Center at the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine (“ZJU Fourth Hospital”). In just 90 minutes, he completed a basic health screening covering physical examination, blood tests, and an ECG. “From online booking to finishing the check-up, the whole process was guided in English one-on-one. The experience was smooth,” he said.

This is becoming a practical choice for more and more international business travelers. As China’s transit visa-free policy keeps expanding (now covering 55 countries, with 65 eligible ports), global travelers are flowing in faster. In Yiwu — famous as the “world’s supermarket” — ZJU Fourth Hospital has launched an international health management service tailored specifically for transit visa-free foreigners.

What makes it traveler-friendly is its tiered design based on your length of stay:

Length of stay What’s included
Short (≤ 3 days) Acute-disease screening and travel health risk assessment — ideal if you’ve just landed with a tight schedule
Medium (3–7 days) Adds baseline chronic-disease risk screening such as cardiovascular and metabolic indicators
Long stay / frequent visitors Adds deeper items like tumor markers and arteriosclerosis assessment on top of the basics

For English speakers, two things stand out: the hospital offers an English-language online booking channel, English reports, and health follow-up; and it runs an international volunteer team providing translation in 10+ languages including Arabic, German, French, and Russian. If you carry international insurance, you can enjoy “cash-free, sign-and-go” settlement — no more wrestling with claims, paperwork, or slow reimbursements.

According to the hospital, its annual foreign patient volume has reached nearly 20,000. For business travelers who visit China regularly, fitting a check-up into a layover is becoming genuinely doable.
